Katto tote bag

Winning submission to open call design competition hosted by Katto Kitchen

Inspired by the placement of some chopped shallots and garlic and the company’s star product of handmade Japanese steel knives, the design draws inspiration from the combination of the logo and traditional cutting techniques from all around the world. The result is a dynamic, playful collage that serves as both celebration and tutorial for culinary techniques.

AZIZ!

AZIZ! POC Events is a SWANA-led QTIPOC event production company founded by Atusa Saeipour/Prince of Persia.

Born from a need to address the lack of diverse queer spaces outside of London, inspiration for the event posters and materials draws from the Persian heritage of the founder, referencing the contemporary and traditional cultural wealth of the region.

‘Mulan’ visualiser illustration

The original brief for 5 collaged illustrations exploded into a beast of an endeavor; the result was a long form “comic-strip” spanning 15 screens.

I developed a moodboard and conceptual drawings based on the song lyrics, which were refined into detailed sketches that allowed the client to have a precise visualisation and provide concise feedback on the final output.

Sustainability Icon System

A bespoke icon system for architectural design and sustainability communication.

THE CHALLENGE
Before, the studio left icon decisions up to individual designers, who largely relied on open-source Noun Project assets.

This meant inconsistent and sometimes overlapping symbols to mean different things.

Furthermore, the studio maintained fairly loose brand guidelines, relying on individual taste for detailed aesthetic and visualisation decision making.

THE OUTCOME
Drawing from typography principles and architectural rhythms directly from the studio’s design apporach and existing branding, a modular, grid-based icon system was developed.
The system is designed to maintain equal visual balances for icons, with a need to be highly flexible to allow for complex, unusual representations.

For sustainability communication, a library of ‘base’ icons were designed, as building blocks to then generate new and contextual meanings, as is needed in sustainability communication. In this manner, the icon system can be scaled up (for data visualisation and diagramming), or scaled down (for digital documents and simpler representations) as needed.

‘Made in East London’

Motion graphics and title work for a short film commissioned as part of the V&A East museum’s upcoming permanent collection, depicting the Youth Collective’s process of creating new work for the museum based on art and making culture.

The reception of the film and working process also led to subsequent collaborations with both the museum and the director.

Hale Wharf Signage

Environmental signage for Hale Wharf development, informed and inspired by industrial and Victorian heritage of the architecture and surrounding area while still maintaining a contemporary, timeless character.

Designed to be visible from afar and from below, with continual legibility and character with age, in the style of ‘ghost signage’ reminiscent of Victorian industrial traces.
